Where body contouring is concerned, the EmSculpt is the latest in aesthetics technology. While previous systems worked, aesthetic physician Dr. Ong Jin Khang from The Retreat Clinic could not achieve 100 percent satisfaction, as patients never looked ‘bikini ready’. This is where BTL’s EmSculpt® comes in. Dr. Ong – the doctor to own the first EmSculpt® in Malaysia – explains the device’s inner workings, revealing how it achieves supramaximal muscular contractions akin to 20,000 sit-ups!
How does EmSculpt® work?
How does EmSculpt® work?
EmSculpt® is the world’s first non-invasive body contouring system which simultaneously builds muscle and burns fat at the same time. According to seven clinical trials, EmSculpt® has been proven to cut fat and tone muscles by 19 percent and 16 percent respectively after just four 30-minute sessions. EmSculpt is an FDA-approved technology that boasts revolutionary results through High-intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) energies which induces supramaximal muscle contractions. Once supramaximal contractions are achieved, muscle fibres tear down and rebuild, releasing free fatty acids which implode fat cells. Aside from abdominal sculpting, EmSculpt® is also the world’s first non-surgical butt lifting therapy. Employing separate protocols, gluteal treatments stimulate muscles without burning fat. Thirty minutes of EmSculpt is the equivalent of 20,000 squats! And yes, no actual squats are required.
Why does EmSculpt® target muscles?
Muscles comprise 30 to 40 percent of our body’s mass. When muscles are stimulated, metabolism is elevated, resulting in superior fat burning efficiency. With increased muscle mass, patients can achieve better overall health and posture.
Diastasis recti, a splitting of the abdominal muscles especially in post partum women, has also been shown to improve by 11 percent after four sessions of EmSculpt®. The increase in muscle mass helps to narrow the gap between the muscles. This is great news, as in the past the only way to treat a bulging abdomen due to DR was with surgical intervention.
What can patients expect during treatment?
During abdominal treatment, patients are asked to lie down. Once they’re comfortable, one or two paddles – which deliver HIFEM energies – are placed on the tummy. Despite being a painless treatment, EmSculpt® does feel like strong muscle contractions or intense workouts. While most individuals can tolerate maximum energy levels, Dr. Ong will tailor the intensity according to unique needs and comfort of the patient. Buttock treatments however, will require patients to lie prone. Once paddles are placed on the patients’ buttocks, the gluteal muscles are stimulated to contract supramaximally without burning fat – for a more lifted, shapelier and perkier butt. Every EmSculpt® treatment takes 30 minutes
What results can patients expect and how many sessions are needed?
Patients can expect a more toned abdomen following four sessions. Butts will feel lifted, look perkier and more voluminous. To achieve optimal effects, protocols recommend the initial four sessions to be done within two weeks, and singular follow-up sessions every three to six months for sustained outcomes. In general, it takes four to eight weeks for the dead fat cells to be drained out via lymphatic drainage, so after four sessions of EmSculpt® patients should expect to see the optimal results four to eight weeks after their final session. Like all other body sculpting treatments, diet and exercise do play a role in achieving and maintaining the best results.
How does EmSculpt® compare against other body contouring devices, and what are your personal opinions of this system?
EmSculpt® is in a league of its own. It cannot be compared with other systems because other devices have never been able to target muscles. My personal opinion of EmSculpt® is that it is nothing short of amazing. Aside from being an industry gamechanger, it is a procedure which not only improves aesthetics but patients’ core strength and wellbeing. Furthermore, it provides body contouring options to those with low BMI, while helping larger patients kickstart their weight loss journey, encouraging healthy lifestyles for years to come.
