Dr. Enrina: When a mother undergoes pregnancy, labour and breastfeeding results in physical changes especially to areas like the tummy and breasts. Should patients experience increased fat deposits in localised regions due to weight gain, simple liposuction may be able to treat such problems. Conversely, if patients undergo significant weight gain in addition to the delivery of large babies, tummy tucks may be recommended as the two straight muscles in front of the abdomen (rectus muscles) may become separated and cause protrusions of the internal organs. Along with coveted results due to the strengthening of core muscles, tummy-tucked mums can additionally regain flatter tummies through excess skin excisions as well.

I am a 55-year old mother who has undergone multiple plastic surgery procedures including a tummy tuck, breast enlargement and facelift. Since I am very open with my daughters about plastic surgery, my eldest who is seventeen has asked my permission to undergo a rhinoplasty. While my views of cosmetic surgery have been fairly positive, is my daughter too young for cosmetic surgery? When do you think is the right time for me to bring her to her first consultation? Stella, KL
My daughter loves swimming and playing under the sun. While I encourage her to be healthy and to play with her friends, I have to unfortunately restrict her physical activities because she is allergic to sun block. I don’t want to stop her from having fun, but at the same time she comes back with painful sunburns. Are there any alternatives to sun block? Laila, JB
I’ve enlarged my earlobes since my teens, but am now sick of how ugly and unprofessional they look. Despite removing the enlargers, my earlobes are still very stretched out. According to information I’ve read online, the only route to normal looking ears is through plastic surgery. What can you tell me about this procedure and will I experience a lot of pain and downtime? Nigel, Sabah
